How to burn a rose candle
To burn a wax rose evenly, trim the wick to 5 mm, let each burn last two to three hours, keep the flame out of draughts and stop when 1 cm of wax is left. The six steps below cover everything else.
- 01
Trim the wick to 5 mm
Before every burn, trim the wick to about 5 mm. A long wick makes a tall, smoky flame and burns the petals unevenly.
- 02
Burn for two to three hours
Let the melted wax reach the edge on the first burn. Never burn for more than four hours at a time.
- 03
Keep it away from draughts
Draughts make the flame lean and melt one side of a rose faster than the other. Keep candles away from open windows, fans and doors.
- 04
Light one stem at a time
In a bouquet, light one rose at a time and keep the others at least 10 cm away from the flame.
- 05
Stop with 1 cm of wax left
Stop burning when 1 cm of wax remains at the base, or when a rose has burned down to its last petals.
- 06
Never leave a flame alone
Always place candles on a heat-resistant surface, out of reach of children and pets, and put them out before you leave the room.
Keeping a bouquet as decoration? Store it out of direct sunlight and away from radiators.
